EDO TOKYO Digital Museum website opens (Tokyo)
The Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library has launched the EDO TOKYO Digital Museum website to provide an enjoyable introduction to the distinctive history and culture of Tokyo, which was called Edo under the rule of the Tokugawa shogunate. Visitors to the site can view images and explanations of items kept in the Special Collections Room of the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library. Two themes are currently covered: Great Edo Entertainment, introducing kabuki and sumo, which were two popular forms of entertainment among the Edo residents, and Great Edo Style, which recreates the fashion and food of Edo. The site will be periodically updated and is scheduled to introduce a total of eight subjects.
